It seems like once the end of October rolls around life becomes a full on sprint of crazy until you tumble into a sugar, present, dazed mess around January 2nd. That explains all those good resolutions we make for the new year on how we won’t let it happen to us again, but somehow the cycle repeats itself every year!
We think that the holidays should be more about family, friends, and memories, and less about the stress and the crazy. That might seem difficult in our do-it-all world, but here are our best tips and tricks for a Thanksgiving that is simple and amazing!
Make a Plan & Send the E-vites
You might belong to a family who visits the same grandparent for Thanksgiving every single year, or you might not have began thinking about Thanksgiving till, well, you saw this post. Either way you’ll want to nail down a plan for how you’re going to celebrate this year right now. The very first step is to pick a location to host at, come up with your list of who you’d love to attend, and send out an invitation either through Facebook or an E-vite site. This will be important for nailing down the guest list and for delegating which we’ll talk about in just a bit.
Pick a Main Dish…or two
Everyone knows that the highlight of Thanksgiving is the magnificent turkey or ham, or maybe both! While a moist, delicious oven baked turkey running over with stuffing is delightful, it’s also a huge amount of time consuming work! This year make things easy on yourself and enjoy a delectable main dish that takes a fraction of the time.
If you’re determined to prepare the turkey yourself, you might consider deep frying your bird. Unlike the traditional roasting method this way is much faster! It also results in a delicious, tender meat and with a variety of injectable flavor options available you can pick and choose exactly how you like your bird customized (we’re big fans of Tony Chachere’s Creole Style Butter). Here is the scoop on how to deep fry a turkey from Butterball that will take you step by step. The only caveat is that you have to buy a bird small enough to fit in the deep fryer, so you might want to purchase a ham or additional turkey breast as well.
If you’re a big fan of delicious flavor and as little work as possible on your part, we have some great options for you! Honey Baked Ham is a favorite for good reason. Just a quick click of a button online and you’ll have a main dish that will have everyone raving till Christmas!
Prasek’s Smokehouse is another amazing option for online “cooking” this Thanksgiving. They offer both smoked turkey and ham, and get rave reviews from their fans. A delicious Thanksgiving really couldn’t be more effortless!
Divide and Conquer
Once your guest list is decided upon and you have the main dish taken care of, it’s time to fill in all the sides and desserts. Most guests would love to pitch in, especially when you’re providing the main dish. Using the online event ask each guest what their two favorite Thanksgiving side dishes or desserts are. Once they all respond compare the answers, and then assign them to bring one of them along so there aren’t any duplicates. Making from-scratch sides and desserts is effortless when each person is just responsible for one thing.
Even out of town guests can get in on this, just ask them to bring along a bottle of wine and drinks, or a finger food tray from the local store.
Fill in the Gaps
Once you have the main dish taken care of along with the list of items that your guests will bring, it’s time to look over the menu and fill in the gaps. What are your personal favorite dishes and are they going to be present? For whatever is left decide what really does need to be homemade and which items you can safely “cheat” on and no one will notice. Frozen yeast rolls, for example, taste as warm and delicious coming out of the oven as ones that you spent all morning making from scratch.
Celebrate In Style
Now that you’ve gotten all the food and drinks taken care of, it’s time to prepare those finishing touches that take it from a good meal to a holiday! Since you’re going the easy route with the menu, plan on making the presentation extra special. This doesn’t have to be hard. Just breaking out the good china (you know, the set you got for your wedding that you never use?) makes the occasion special. Be sure to have plenty wine glasses on hand along with Thanksgiving Magnetic Wine Charms–these are the absolutely most fun and festive way to make sure no one gets their glasses mixed up! They come in sets of 12, so by ordering one or two you will be set for the entire party. You can keep them for years to come or send each guest home with their charm as a little gift to remember the day by! Polish off the place setting by adding cloth napkins, place mats, and a few little decorative touches. With all of this together you’ll be set with a simple set up that’s sure to wow.
Now all that’s left is to enjoy your guests, the delicious food, and the day!
